چکیده

objective: the gingival crevicular fluid (gcf) is an inflammatory exudate found in the gingival sulcus. the forces exerted during orthodontic treatment cause distortion of the periodontal ligament (pdl) extra-cellular matrix, resulting in some biological features that can lead to modification of both gcf volume and its components. the present study investigated the effect of orthodontic tooth movements, specifically canine retraction, on the volume of gcf exudate. materials and methods: fourteen upper and lower canines of patients with different angle classifications were selected for the study. after extraction of the first premolars, the canines were subjected to orthodontic distal retraction. gcf was sampled from mesial and distal gingival crevices of each canine separately at baseline, 1 hour, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days after the application of the orthodontic distal retraction. gcf volume was determined by means of an electronic device. results: gcf volume at tension sites was slightly greater after 21 and 28 days compared to other observation time points. at pressure sites, gcf volume was slightly greater after 28 days compared to other observation time points. none of the observed differences, however, was statistically significant (p>0.05). conclusion: orthodontic tooth movement, namely canine retraction, does not significantly increase the volume of gcf exudate. the slight increase in gcf volume could be due to a slight degree of gingival inflammation.

Bone marker levels in gingival crevicular fluid during orthodontic intrusive tooth movement: a preliminary study.

The aim of the present study is to observe the changes in bone turnover markers, deoxypyridinoline (Dpd), osteocalcin, n-telopeptide (NTx), and bone alkaline phosphatase (balp) during the experimental orthodontic intrusion of maxillary premolar teeth. The study population required fixed appliance therapy involving the extraction of the maxillary first premolar teeth. Gingival crevicular fluid (...

Biomarkers of Orthodontic Tooth Movement in Gingival Crevicular Fluid: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND The analysis of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) may be an acceptable way to examine the ongoing biochemical processes associated with bone turnover during orthodontic tooth movement. If it is possible to biologically monitor and predict the outcome of orthodontic forces, then the management of appliances could be based on individual tissue responses, and the effectiveness of the trea...

Lactate Dehydrogenase Activity in Gingival Crevicular Fluid as a Marker in Orthodontic Tooth Movement

OBJECTIVES This study aims at analyzing the changes in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity during orthodontic movement. METHODS Twenty patients all requiring first premolar extractions were selected and treated with conventional straight wire mechanotherapy. Canine retraction was done using 125 g Nitinol closed coil springs. The maxillary canine on one side se...

Matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases in gingival crevicular fluid during orthodontic tooth movement.

Orthodontic tooth movement requires extensive re-modelling of the periodontium. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) degrade the extracellular matrix during re-modelling, while their activity is regulated by the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). The aim of this study was to investigate differences in MMP and TIMP levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) at the resorption and app...

Biochemical markers of bone metabolism in gingival crevicular fluid during early orthodontic tooth movement.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the expression of an activator of nuclear factor-kappa (RANK), osteoprotegerin (OPG), osteopontin (OPN), and transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of teeth subjected to orthodontic forces. MATERIALS AND METHODS A randomized, pilot clinical trial including 10 healthy volunteers was conducted using a split-mouth design. Orthodontic elast...

Identification of dentine sialoprotein in gingival crevicular fluid during physiological root resorption and orthodontic tooth movement.

Root resorption is an unwanted effect of orthodontic tooth movement. Analysis of dentine proteins in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is a potentially safer method of quantifying root resorption compared with conventional radiographic methods. This study aimed to identify and quantify the dentine-specific matrix protein, dentine sialoprotein (DSP), released into GCF during physiological root res...
